Kriti Class 8 Chapter 18, Arts of the People, with the People, for the People, celebrates everyday Indian craft traditions through three hands-on studio projects using thread, cloth and paper.
What Kriti Class 8 Chapter 18 Covers
Art of the people: every artefact carries the touch of the people who made it, and art changes with materials and tools as well as with social values.
Tie and link (knotting): inspired by nature’s networks, such as the living-root bridges made from Indian rubber trees in Meghalaya, groups learn basic knots in six steps to make a friendship band, wrist band or rakhi.
Patch and match: patchwork joins small pieces of cloth into one large piece for quilts, bags and cushion covers. Collect old fabric at home and school, take a base of at least 30 × 30 cm, and sew patches onto it.
Pulp and paint (papier-mâché): newspaper or tissue mixed with water and glue becomes very strong. Soak strips in water for a few days, squeeze them out, mix the pulp and shape a small form to paint.
