Class 7 Arts (Kriti) Chapter 14, Natya, brings together dance, music, dialogue and costume to stage a complete Natya (dance-drama) performance—starting with traditional stage salutations (Bhumi Pranam and benediction) and moving through story adaptation, choreography and live presentation.
What Class 7 Art Chapter 14 Covers
Benediction, Salutation & Story Adaptation (Activity 14.1) teaches the opening benediction shloka and salutation to Mother Earth, guru and audience, and breaks a folk story into choreographed scenes.
Movement, Music, Costumes & Presentation (Activity 14.2) selects expressive movements, hastas, rhythm, melodies and eco-friendly props/costumes to rehearse and stage the group dance-drama.
Salutation and benediction: a performance opens with a salutation, a prayer dance, and the chapter’s example is Purandara Dasa’s Kannada song ‘Gajavadana beduve Gowri tanaya’. It ends with a benediction, bowing to thank the audience, and the verse ‘Om sarve bhavantu sukhinah’ is added to the performance.
Planning the story: the class adapts the story of Krishna and the serpent Kaliya, choosing beats of 5, 6 and 7 for different scenes and navarasa for each character (bhayanaka for the children, raudra for Kaliya, veera for Krishna). Props include a peacock feather, a flute, animal masks and a blue dupatta for the river.
