Class 7 Arts (Kriti) Chapter 2, Say More without Speech — Mime, introduces the art of silent theatrical storytelling using facial expressions, hand gestures, body posture and imaginary objects.
What Class 7 Art Chapter 2 Covers
Three Pillars of a Mime Show (Activities 2.1–2.2) trains the three core pillars of mime—Imagination (visualising weight, size and texture of invisible objects), Exaggeration (amplifying expressions and resistance) and Costume and Make-up (white face paint and dark eye/lip outlines).
Mime as a Universal Language (Activity 2.3) guides students to choreograph group mime skits on social and environmental themes that communicate across all language barriers.
Building an imaginary world: with no set or props, a mime artist must make the audience believe in objects that are not there. Activity 2.1 practises one everyday object’s shape, size and weight, and in Activity 2.2 the class passes an imaginary object around a circle, each person turning it into something new.
Pantomime: a related form with several actors and music, mostly comedy. Mime costume stays neutral, often all black against a white backdrop or black-and-white stripes, so attention stays on the body and face.
