Class 8 Physical Education Khel Yatra Unit 5 PDF: Fundamental Skills of Sports — Volleyball

Class 8 Physical Education (Khel Yatra) Unit 5, Fundamental Skills of Sports — Volleyball, teaches the core skills and court rotations of six-a-side volleyball.

What Class 8 Physical Education Unit 5 Covers

Underhand pass (bump or dig): used to receive serves and spikes. Join the hands into a flat platform, bend the knees, keep a low stance and play the ball off the forearms.

Overhead pass and setting: hands above the forehead with thumbs and index fingers forming a triangle and the elbows out to make a cup. The same touch is used for setting, or ‘boosting’, the ball up for a spike.

Underhand serve: non-dominant foot forward, arm swung like a pendulum, and a closed fist striking the bottom of the ball. The unit also explains how bending the knees and loading the arm stores potential energy that turns into kinetic energy in a powerful serve.

Spike and block: the spike is struck with the palm at the centre or top of the ball and finished with a snap of the wrist to drive it down. The block is a jump at the net, solo or with a partner, to stop or deflect a spike.

Drills: a ball rotation drill moves players through setter, spiker and blocker roles, and a Ball Throw game for teams of six serves, catches and throws within 3 seconds.
