What is the difference between pepsin and trypsin ?

Pepsin and Trypsin

Although both trypsin and pepsin are proteolytic enzymes secreted by the digestive system in order to digest proteins, they differ in many aspects.

Pepsin

  1. Component. It is component of gastric juice.
  2. Inactive State. It is produced in the inactive state of pepsinogen.
  3. Activation. The enzyme is activated by HCI of gastric juice.
  4. Region of Activity. It is active in stomach.
  5. Medium – It functions in acidic medium.

Trypisn

  1. Component. It is component of pancreatic Juice.
  2. Inactive State. Trypsin is produced in the inactive state called trypsinogen.
  3. Activation. The enzyme is activated by enterokinase of intestinal juice.
  4. Region of Activity. It is active in duodenum and jejunum.
  5. Medium – It functions in alkaline medium.
