Body basics and first aid: the unit honours Maharṣhi Suśhruta, the ‘Father of Surgery’, whose learning was rooted in Ayurveda, the science of life. It defines bone, cartilage (a shock-absorbing tissue), tendons (which join muscle to bone, like the Achilles tendon), joints and range of motion, and the three kinds of muscle. For sports injuries it teaches PRICE: protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation.
