Class 6 Maths Chapter 6, Perimeter and Area, develops formulas and problem-solving strategies for the perimeter and area of rectangles, squares, regular polygons, right-angled and general triangles, and composite rectilinear shapes.
What Class 6 Mathematics Chapter 6 Covers
6.1 Perimeter of Rectangles, Squares & Regular Polygons revises perimeter as the total boundary length of a closed figure: Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (l + b), Perimeter of square = 4 × a, perimeter of an equilateral triangle = 3a, and perimeter of any regular n-sided polygon = n × side length, plus straight- and diagonal-unit grid perimeters.
6.2–6.3 Area of Rectangles, Squares, Triangles & Composite Shapes reviews Area of rectangle = l × b and Area of square = a², compares how shapes with the same area can have different perimeters (and vice versa) using Charan’s 9-tile floor puzzles, derives the area of a triangle as half the area of its enclosing rectangle (by splitting into two right triangles, 6.3), and finds areas of L-, T- and U-shaped paths by splitting into rectangles.

FAQ
Can two shapes have the same area but different perimeters?
Yes. For example, 9 unit squares arranged in a 3 × 3 square have area 9 sq units and perimeter 12 units, whereas arranged in a 1 × 9 strip they still have area 9 sq units but perimeter 20 units.
How do you find the area of a triangle using a rectangle on a grid?
A right-angled triangle has exactly half the area of the rectangle formed by its base and height; any general triangle can be split by an altitude into two right-angled triangles, so its area is half the area of the enclosing rectangle.
