नानाजी की कड़वी पुड़िया और दिनभर की भूख (The Bitter Lesson) बीमारी के बहाने के कारण नानाजी उसे कड़वी दवाई की पुड़िया और काढ़े जैसी चाय पिलाते हैं तथा दिनभर कुछ भी खाने को नहीं देते—बाहर बच्चे खेलते हैं और घर में पकौड़े बनते हैं, जिससे बच्चा तौबा करता है कि अब वह कभी झूठमूठ बीमार नहीं पड़ेगा।
