(ii) For 11 and 25 / 11 25 :

(iii) For 40 and 123 / 40 123 :

  1. English: 4 is 2 less than any number.

Hindi: 4 2

  • Solution / : Let the number be x.

According to statement: x – 2 = 4.

  1. English: Addition of 8 and any number is 12.

Hindi: 8 12

  • Solution / : Let the number be y.

According to statement: y + 8 = 12.

  • Add 5 → Square the sum: (5 + 5)2 = 100.
  • Square 5 → Add 5: 52 + 5 = 25 + 5 = 30.
  • Multiply by 2 → Subtract 4: (5 × 2) – 4 = 10 – 4 = 6.
  • Subtract 4 → Multiply by 2: (5 – 4) × 2 = 1 × 2 = 2.

(ii) For input variable x / x :

  • Add 5 → Square the sum: (x + 5)2.
  • Square x → Add 5: x2 + 5.
  • Multiply by 2 → Subtract 4: 2x – 4.
  • Subtract 4 → Multiply by 2: 2(x – 4).

(iii) For input variable x / x :

  • Multiply by 3 → Add 6: 3x + 6.
  • Subtract 6 → Multiply by 3: 3(x – 6).
  • Add 6 → Divide by 3: (x + 6)/(3).
  • Divide by 3 → Subtract 6: x/3 – 6 = 18.

Make statements for the following algebraic equations:

(i) 2x – 3 = 42

(ii) 12x – 3 = 105

(iii) (x)/(x + 4) = 28

(iv) x + 6 = 28

(v) 3x + 3 = 15

(i) 2x – 3 = 42

  • English: Subtracting 3 from double of a number gives 42.
  • Hindi: 3 42

(ii) 12x – 3 = 105

  • English: Subtracting 3 from 12 times of a number gives 105.
  • Hindi: 12 3 105

(iii) (x)/(x + 4) = 28

  • English: Dividing a number x by 4 more than itself gives 28.
  • Hindi: x 4 28

(iv) x + 6 = 28

  • English: Adding 6 to a number gives 28.
  • Hindi: 6 28

(v) 3x + 3 = 15

  • English: Adding 3 to 3 times of a number gives 15.
  • Hindi: 3 15
