Class 4 Maths Chapter 4, Thousands Around Us, follows Jaspreet and Gulnaz organising a neighbourhood Gurudwara langar for 1,000 people to introduce 4-digit numbers, HTO/ThHTO blocks, breaking up 1000, number lines, and comparing 4-digit numbers.
What Class 4 Mathematics Chapter 4 Covers
Introducing One Thousand (1000) & Place Value Blocks builds 1,000 as 10 hundreds (Times-10), breaks 1,000 into combinations of hundreds, tens, and ones, and represents 4-digit numbers using Thousands, Hundreds, Tens, and Ones (Th H T O).
Numbers Beyond 1000, Number Lines & Comparing Numbers reads and writes 4-digit numbers in words and expanded form, places them accurately on number lines, hunts numbers in grids, and compares/orders 4-digit numbers.
Thousands in real life: in the early 1900s only about 200 Indian rhinoceroses were left; conservation has brought them back to about 4,000, each weighing 1,800–2,700 kg. Children break 1,000 into parts (900 + 100, 850 + 150), regroup ones, tens and hundreds, read numbers on a number line, and arrange peaks such as K2 (8,611 m), Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), Nanda Devi (7,816 m) and Mullayanagiri (1,930 m) by height. With the digits 2, 3, 4 and 7, 24 different four-digit numbers can be made.
