Solve the following word problems.

(a) Two baskets contain 8 kg 650 g and 5 kg 550 g of tomatoes. How much is the total quantity of tomatoes?

Solutions:

The first basket contains 8 kg 650 g ———(1)

The second basket contains 5 kg 550 g ———(2)

The total quantity of tomatoes in both the basket= (1) + (2)

(b) A family consumed 40 kg 800 g flour in the month of December, 25 Kg 500g in the month of January, and 38 kg 750 g in the month of February was the total consumption of flour for the three months?

Solution:

Consumption of flour in December = 40 kg 800 g ———(1)

Consumption of flour in January= 25 Kg 500g ———(2)

Consumption of flour in February= 38 kg 750 ———(3)

The total consumption of flour in three months= (1) + (2) + (3)

(c) In a ration shop, there was 1250 kg 875 g of wheat in the morning the day, 1080 kg 250 g of wheat was sold out. By the evening how much wheat was left in the shop?

Solution:

Available Wheat in morning=1250 kg 875 g ———(1)

Wheat sold during the day = 1080 kg 250 g ———(2)

Wheat remaining in the evening = (1) – (2)

(d) The weight of one watermelon is 5 kg 350 g and that of another is 4 kg 945 g Which watermelon is of more quantity and by how much?

Solution:

Weight of one watermelon = 5 kg 350 g ———(1)

Weight of the second watermelon = 4 kg 945 g ———(2)

Watermelon with a weight of 5kg 350g is of more quantity than watermelon with a weight of 4 kg 945 g.

Watermelon with a weight of 5kg 350g is of more quantity than watermelon with a weight of 4 kg 945 g by = (1) – (2)
