Class 8 Science Chapter 1 PDF: Exploring the Investigative World of Science (Curiosity)

Class 8 Science Chapter 1, Exploring the Investigative World of Science, opens NCERT’s Grade 8 Curiosity textbook (2026-27). It invites you to move from simple observation to systematic scientific investigation, asking everyday questions like why one side of a fried puri is thinner than the other.

What Class 8 Science Chapter 1 Covers

Probe and ponder sparks curiosity with open questions—from why leaves and insects show such vast diversity to whether there are more grains of sand on Earth or stars in our galaxy.

How scientists investigate shows how a simple kitchen or outdoor question becomes a step-by-step investigation: framing a testable question, controlling variables, observing carefully and drawing conclusions.

Questions that start each chapter: every chapter opens with ‘Probe and ponder’ questions such as why one side of a puri is thinner than the other, or whether there are more grains of sand on Earth than stars in our galaxy. Investigation means more than looking: observing the Moon’s phases led people to make the first calendars, and the chapter returns to the puri question to show how to think like a scientist.
