Ans- They were shocked to see Janaki because she was a physically challenged girl and was ready to swim the English Channel.

ii. What was wrong with Janki? How did it happen?

Ans- Janki’s leg muscles had become so weak that she could not use her legs in any way. She had been attacked by polio when she was only two years old.

iii. Why were all the officials impressed with Janaki?

Ans- All the officials were impressed with Janki to see her certificates that showed how she trained herself in swimming against the upstream for twenty kilometres every day for three weeks in the Arabian Sea.

Above all, she could swim for ten hours continuously.

iv. In what way did July 28, 1992, create history?

Ans- She created history by swimming across the Channel.

v. What were the difficulties that Janki faced while swimming across the Channel?

Ans- Whiling crossing the channel, the salty water entered in her mouth and it made her ill every time. The seaweeds and the jellyfish kept sticking to her body and made her extremely uncomfortable.

Janki underwent very difficult training to achieve her ambition. Imagine how she would have felt if, for any reason, she had not achieved victory in the relay across the English Channel. Do you think she would have given up swimming or she would have worked harder next time?

Ans- If for any reason, she would not achieve victory she would have felt a little disappointed. But being a brave girl she would have gathered all her courage and would have started working harder than before.
