💡 Solution:

Suman’s dadi asked her to bring some important wild herbs from the patches in their backyard.

Dadi needed the herbs to prepare natural medicines to cure biological and chemical imbalances and illnesses.

The main systems of medicine prevalent in the world are Allopathy, Homeopathy, and Ayurveda.

  1. Allopathy: It is the mainstream modern health care system that treats physical symptoms using tested medicines.
  2. Homeopathy: It works on the doctrine ‘like cures like’, where a substance causing symptoms in a healthy person cures similar symptoms in a sick person.
  3. Ayurveda: It is the ancient Indian natural and holistic science of life that focuses on preventing disease and eliminating its root cause by balancing the body’s natural elements.

Ayurveda principles state that human life is governed by five basic cosmic elements (space, air, fire, water, earth) combined into three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Maintaining perfect balance among these doshas through proper pathya (lifestyle, eating habits, and daily routine) prevents diseases and ensures ideal health.

The five elements (space, air, fire, water, and earth) form our individual physical, mental, and emotional constitution (prakriti). Keeping these five elements balanced leads to health, vitality, and intelligence, whereas their imbalance leads to emotional distress and diseases.

The three governing energies or doshas in Ayurveda are

  1. Vata (Space + Air)
  2. Pitta (Fire + Water)
  3. Kapha (Water + Earth)
  • Vata: Controls body motion, blood circulation, breathing, and heartbeat.
  • Pitta: Controls metabolic systems, digestion, absorption, nutrition, and body temperature.
  • Kapha: Controls body structure, growth, fluid supply, skin moisture, and immunity.

Dr. A. K. Sharma runs ‘Sanjivani Health Care Centre’ in our town, and he practices the Ayurvedic system of medicine.
