Surbhi (Praveshika) is the introductory Sanskrit reader DAV schools use in Class 5, published by the DAV College Managing Committee. Its 14 short lessons teach everyday words through pictures and simple sentences. The opening lesson describes a morning (मधुरा प्रभातवेला), and the next ones cover the family, a trip to the zoo, the vegetable market and common birds. The later lessons bring in colours, telling the time, words such as above and below (shown with a cat and a box), and counting from one to ten in all three genders.

Questions about the DAV Class 5 Sanskrit Book
Is Surbhi Praveshika hard for a first-year Sanskrit student?
No. The book assumes no earlier Sanskrit. Most pages are coloured pictures with one or two labelled sentences, and grammar is taught through use, such as verb forms with pronouns in lesson 6 and place words in lesson 9, without separate grammar chapters.
Which Sanskrit book comes after this?
DAV students move on to the numbered Surbhi readers from Class 6. The Class 7 and Class 8 books are on this site.
