The DAV Class 8 computer book has nine chapters in about 170 pages, and it is mostly about the web and programming. It opens with computer networks: routers, switches and modems, ALOHAnet in Hawaii in 1971, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G. Three chapters then build web pages in HTML, from headings and paragraphs to lists, tables, images and links. After a chapter on domain names, IP and MAC addresses and HTTPS, the book turns to algorithms and flowcharts and then QBasic programming. It ends with a chapter on cyberbullying, hacking and cyber law.

| 8. Looping in QBasic & Project Handling (p. 146) | Looping concept, FOR-NEXT statement, project management life cycle, green school project, computer viruses, malware, antivirus, formatting, and defragmentation |
| 9. The Cyber World, Cyber Crime and the Law (p. 160) | Cyberbullying story of Dobo, cyber congress, cybercrime cell, hacking, copyright infringement, case study of Una, credit card misuse, and network safety |
Four chapters have Hands On tasks to do at the computer, such as typing an HTML page in Notepad or running a QBasic program, and five end with an Assessment Activity. Chapter 8 pairs FOR-NEXT loops with a short lesson on project management, using a green school project as the example, and lists suggested projects. The cyber law chapter teaches through stories, such as Dobo being bullied online and a case of credit card misuse.
Questions about the DAV Class 8 Computer Book
Which programming language does the book teach?
QBasic. Chapter 7 covers constants, variables, operators, the BEDMAS order and the PRINT, INPUT and IF-THEN-ELSE statements, and Chapter 8 adds FOR-NEXT loops. HTML is taught separately in Chapters 2 to 4.
Does it cover Python?
No. This edition uses QBasic for programming. Algorithms and flowcharts (Chapter 6) come first, so the logic carries over to any language learnt later.
